English is strange...
There are many examples of anomalies in the English language, but for some reason this one is bothering me this morning...
Why is the past tense of fly different for different usages? The bird FLEW over the tree, but the batter FLIED out to center field. Flied just sounds WRONG! Baseball announcers sound idiotic when they say it, yet it is correct.

Ha, I teach English, and there's all type of examples of things that just don't sound right. The kids always ask why we do it if it doesn't sound right and no one actually says it htat way.....but I just have to say the English language doesn't make much sense.
